As many have noticed, Telegram accounts of Antoni Zolciak and our former colleague Piotr Saczuk were recently and unexpectedly deleted. Our investigation has determined that this was most likely a targeted exploit of Telegram’s account-deletion API—which does not require Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to proceed, even when 2FA is enabled (see: core.telegram.org/api/account-deletion). Key points: - Exploit vector: The attacker used Telegram’s deletion endpoint to remove the accounts without needing 2FA verification. - Message security intact: This vulnerability affects only account deletion; it is highly unlikely that any messages were read or sent by the attacker. - No impact on sensitive data: We do not conduct confidential internal communications via Telegram, so no proprietary information was at risk. Actions underway: - A full review to determine the scope of the incident. - Reinforced social-media security protocols and implementation of additional safeguards. - Contacted with Telegram support team to restore deleted accounts Please continue to follow these best practices: - Enable 2FA on all your accounts—and never share your codes. - Stay alert for unexpected messages, even from contacts you know. - Review linked devices regularly and remove those you no longer use. - Keep devices and apps updated to receive the latest security fixes. - Avoid clicking suspicious links or downloading unknown files.
